About WriteKeys
WriteKeys is a free text cleaner for people who move text from PDFs, emails, and old records into case notes.
Why it exists
WriteKeys started with a case manager's routine. Copy a section of a referral or a discharge summary, paste it into the note, then spend the next few minutes fixing it. Half of it is in capitals. Every line ends early because it came from a PDF. The diagnoses arrive one per line with a dash in front of each, when the note needs CHF, HTN, CAD on one line.
General case converters handled part of that. None of them joined a list with commas, and their sentence case turned CHF into Chf, so every acronym needed fixing by hand. WriteKeys puts the jobs a case note needs on one page, and keeps the acronyms.
What it does
- Joins a list into one line with commas, or with “and” before the last item.
- Removes the line breaks that PDFs leave in the middle of sentences, and fixes odd PDF characters.
- Fixes ALL CAPS while keeping 332 health care and social services acronyms and names.
- Removes dashes and bullets, without breaking dates and phone numbers.
- Lets you make your own buttons, like one that removes every $ and em dash in one press.
- Remembers your own fixes for words a PDF misreads, like ESRO for ESRD.
How we handle your text
We never see it. Everything happens in your browser, and the page is blocked from sending data anywhere. Here is how that works.
