Privacy policy

The short version: WriteKeys does not collect, store, or share the text you paste or type. We don't use cookies, analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind. If you make your own tools or a list of words to replace, they are saved only in your own browser.
Who we are
WriteKeys (writekeys.net) is a free text tool for cleaning up copied text. You can reach us at hello@writekeys.net.
Text you paste or type
Text you put in the WriteKeys text box is processed only by JavaScript running in your own browser. It is never sent to WriteKeys or to anyone else, and we have no way to see it. It is not saved in cookies or browser storage, and it disappears when you close the tab. The spell check works the same way: it looks your words up in a word list that downloads with the page, in your browser. How WriteKeys keeps your text private has the technical details and the steps to check them.
Your tools, word lists, and templates
If you make buttons under My tools, add words under My words, or save templates, they are saved in your browser's local storage on your device, along with your settings for them (whether words are fixed when you paste, whether suggestions show while you type, whether the spell check is on, and whether button names show), so they are there when you come back. That means each tool's name and steps, each word and its replacement, each autocomplete word or phrase (including words you add from the spell check), each word you tell the spell check to always ignore, and each template's name and text. Words you ignore only until you close the tab are not saved. They are never sent to WriteKeys or anyone else. You can edit or delete them at any time, and clearing your browser's site data removes them. Please don't put information that identifies a person in them.
Information processed when you visit
WriteKeys itself does not collect information about visitors. The site is delivered by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical details for each request, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. These details never include text from the text box. Cloudflare describes how it handles them in its privacy policy.
We may look at the traffic totals our host reports, such as visits per day and the countries they come from. These totals do not identify anyone.
Cookies
WriteKeys does not set cookies. If our host needs to check that a visitor is not an automated bot, it may set a short-lived security cookie for that purpose. It contains nothing you typed.
If you email us, we receive your email address and your message, and we use them only to reply. Please don't send us patient information.
Children
WriteKeys is a work tool and is not directed at children under 13.
